Wilmette Community Band

About Us

The Wilmette Community Band has been open to all ages and skill levels for the past 27 years. No auditions required! We play many fun gigs including the Wilmette Memorial Day parade along with our colleagues in the Gross Point Band, as well as several 4th of July parades and concerts in neighboring communities, street fairs, sidewalk sales, the sometimes-chilly Wilmette Santa Parade - we've even done a wedding!

The Wilmette Community Band is grateful for the generosity of the Wilmette Post of the American Legion and Marie Murphy School in providing places for us to rehearse and to Wilmette Public Library for hosting this web site for us. Without the support of these community organizations we would not be able to offer our program to our participants and audiences.

We are fortunate enough to have a large library of concert band classics, all your old favorites such as Gustav Holst, Percy Grainger, John P. Sousa, John Paynter and Glen Bainum arrangements.....and many new additions to band literature from talented composers like Mark Camphouse and Frank Tichelli.

We are financed by modest voluntary dues paid by our members, performance honorariums and contributions by supporters and members. (Donations to a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization such as the Wilmette Community Band are deductible as charitable contributions on the donor's federal income tax return.)

A Word from Our Director

The Wilmette Community Band is comprised of musicians of all ages and talents. Our love of music brings us together each week! We welcome current students as well as those "more experienced" students who need to take their instrument out of the closet and dust it off. Whatever your ability, you are welcome to join!

We play a variety of concerts each year. Our venues include parades, village holiday ceremonies, nursing homes, churches, parks, and even area schools. This past spring, we did a joint concert with the North Chicago Community High School Concert Band. Please contact us if you wish to have us perform at your venue. We love nothing more than a great audience!

Please email me , or our president, Jeff Urban, if you have any questions regarding the band. We hope to see you at a rehearsal or a concert. Come give us a try!

Cordially,

Hilary Strauch
